Brixadi
BRIXADI (Buprenorphine (Extended-Release Injection)) is a long-acting injection that contains buprenorphine. Buprenorphine has been used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) for many years.
BRIXADI is a prescription medicine used to treat moderate to severe opioid addiction (dependence) to opioid drugs (prescription or illegal) in people:
- who have started treatment with a single dose of a buprenorphine medicine in the form of a sublingual tablet or buccal film (transmucosal),OR
- who are already being treated with buprenorphine
BRIXADI (Buprenorphine (Extended-Release Injection)) is a long-acting injection that contains buprenorphine. Buprenorphine has been used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) for many years. It can help reduce opioid use by attaching to opioid receptors in the brain. As a result, opioids are less likely to attach, and the rewarding effects of opioids are blocked.
Administration Information
A weekly or monthly extended-release injection for opioid use disorder.
Potential Side Effects
BRIXADI has similar side effects to oral buprenorphine. There can also be mild to moderate side effects related to the injection. In the clinical studies, the most common side effects were:
- Injection site pain
- Headache
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Injection site redness
- Injection site itching
- Insomnia
- Urinary tract infections
These are not all the possible side effects of BRIXADI.
