Fluphenazine Decanoate

Fluphenazine Decanoate

Fluphenazine (floo-FEN-a-zeen) is a antipsychotic medicine that is used primarily as maintenance therapy for chronic schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders in patients who do not tolerate oral formulations or in patients where medication compliance is a concern of the provider.

It blocks some areas in the brain where the natural chemical, dopamine, works. This lowers the effect of dopamine in the body.

Administration Information

It is a deep intramuscular (IM) injection into the gluteal region and given every 3-4 weeks and helps manage long-term symptoms.
