Risperdal Consta

Risperdal Consta (risperidone) is a long-acting injection used in adults to treat schizophrenia and adults who have bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder; a disease that causes episodes of depression, episodes of severe mania, and other abnormal moods). It has shown to stabilize mood and reduce symptoms.

Administration Information

It's given every two weeks as an injection and works steadily over time.

Potential Side Effects

Common side effects of risperidone may include:

  • Difficulty sleeping at night 
  • Headaches 
  • Putting on weight or changes in appetite 
  • Stomach pain 
  • Feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting)
  • Constipation 
  • Diarrhea 
  • Swollen breasts, pain in your breast or leaking breast milk

Other side effects may occur, tell your doctor about any side effect that bothers you or does not go away.
